Health First System Director Women’s and Children’s Services in Melbourne, Florida
POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in providing Product Excellence, Delight, Access, Ease and Convenience, and Customer Cost by providing system oversite of the planning, developing, leading and evaluating of clinical and support services for Women’s and Children’s Services across the hospital division.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ease and Convenience:
- Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-CARE commitments.
- Acts under the direction of the VP of Nursing and as such, keeps him/her informed onthe progress and status of objectives and action plans.
- The System Director is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between department team members and their customers, including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other system employees, and the general public.
- Maintains a positive, open and effective relationship with the Medical Staffs, Hospital Management Teams and all levels of the associates through open communication, utilizing effective written and verbal skills.
- Assists the VP of Nursing in determining priorities as necessary to meet the changing demands of the Health System through effective planning, implementation and evaluation of Women’s and Children’s goals and objectives.
- The System Director is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and for development of leadership skills through ongoing education.
- Serves as liaison between system/hospital/clinic administration, physicians, departments, and staff to ensure cost-effective utilization of services and processes.
- Disseminates best practice information obtained from across Health First, and from outside system resources.
- The System Director will lead in a way to promote strategic thinking, to drive problem solving, and standardization of a care model for the service line by empowering a healthy workplace consistent with established standards.
- The System Director will promote empowerment of team members through supporting them to assume responsibility and accountability within their scope of practice.
Product Excellence:
- Maintains an environment conducive to optimum safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Ensures compliance with all patient safety goals.
- Participates in the administration of Patient Care Services as a full member of the Nurse Executive Team.
- Participates in the strategic and long-range planning of Patient Care Services for Women’s and Children Services.
- Participates in the determination of clinical and administrative nursing goals and directions.
- Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving.
- Provides leadership in the development of leaders in collaboration with the human resource team to lead and manage through concerns and issues affecting associates and Women’s and Children services.
- Ensures education of associates and compliance with quality indicators and core measures.
- Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care.
Customer Cost:
- Acquires and allocates human, material and financial resources for specific functions and processes.
- Ensures compliance with Budget expectations and corporate financial goals.
- Participates in ongoing evaluation and innovation of services provided by organized nursing services and the organization as a whole.
- The System Director is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing and assisting in the development of realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters.
- Collaborates with the VP of Nursing to assume responsibility for the preparation of strategic goals, objectives and operating plans for assigned areas at the beginning of the fiscal year.
- Collaborates with Providers/Senior Leadership/Directors/Managers to ensure personnel management in an efficient and cost effective manner; and manages staffing costs effectively and efficiently.
- Leads the preparation and management of operating, personnel and capital budgets in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Coordinates resources with an understanding of patient care needs, projected patient census and changes in healthcare technology.
- Reviews operating budget monthly and reports abnormal findings to the VP of Nursing.
Delight:
- Serves as a professional role model and mentor to motivate, develop, recruit and retain future nursing leaders.
- Serves as a change agent, assisting all staff in understanding the importance, necessity, impact and process of change.
- Accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients.
- Fosters a climate conducive to educational experiences for nursing and other students.
- Facilitates communication to meet the ongoing demands of the organization.
- Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding an bedside shift report.
Access:
- Provides leadership to reduce friction to our customers on accessing care.
- Serves as a consultant to the strategy team on ways to improve access and services.
- Participates in communications with marketing team on best practices to enhance wellness, community outreach for service line, and education to the community.
- Participates in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team on ease of accessing care, education, information, and initiatives improving the care of the service line.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration,or related required.
- Knowledge of TJC and applicable regulatory agencies.
- Must hold and maintain current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion card on hire / employment.
- Current Florida RN license.
- Minimum of 3-5 years clinical obstetrical experience
- Minimum of 5 years in nursing leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Basic computer skills utilizing the Windows environment.
- Maintains professional competencies by attending continuing education programs and participation in professional organizations.
- Highly developed communication skills, verbal and non-verbal.
- Sound organizational skills to include time management and problem solving.
- Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
