Collins Aerospace is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of electrical design engineers focused on complex product development for ruggedized electronics solutions used in many equipment types across the Collins Avionics business portfolio. The designs include elements of processing, graphics, ethernet, and IO for Weather Radar products . This equipment is used to display relevant precipitation-related weather and turbulence to assist the pilot in avoiding hazardous weather. This equipment is on a diverse range of aircraft platforms from Commercial Air Transport, and Business and Regional aircraft . 

The team has ownership of the full product life-cycle activities from road mapping and conceptual design to sustainment support of in-production solutions. This team works closely with product development groups that specialize in mechanical design, platform (product) software, and systems engineering.   As the leader, you will own the hardware development lifecycle.

You must have strong technical, organizational, and leadership skills as well as a good project management understanding to enable predictable execution by the team. You will be responsible for performance management, talent acquisition, and career development for a geographically distributed team in order to position the team for strong performance now and into the future. You will have an intrinsic ability motivate and empower a team through passion and enthusiasm. You will collaborate with technical and non-technical personnel across many business areas within Collins Aerospace as well as external customers requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • You will be accountable for the success of the team in meeting program milestones and activities .

  • You will be accountable for adherence to existing budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements, along with planning and budgeting of new efforts .  

  • Building and refine technical roadmaps that support a variety of needs from different product and business markets .  

  • Develop team staffing plans to meet a wide variety of technical projects .  

  • Actively participate in team’s technical activities to coach and influence the team.

  •  Actively evaluate individual employee performance and career development needs and goals .

  • Lead the development of engineering bids to ensure success .  

  • Continually grow team capabilities through career development and onboarding of new hires. 

  •  Occasional domestic travel (<10%) .  

    QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires University Degree and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of experience preparing bids and pursuing contracts

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering leadership position with a minimum of 12 direct reports.

  • 5+ years of experience in the avionics hardware product design and development life cycle.

    QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  •  Familiarity with avionics hardware product design and development life cycle activities including requirement capture, detailed design, integration, and qualification (DO-254, DO-160) 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.

  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and resolve issues and mitigate risks.

  • Proven ability to facilitate difficult conversations and communicate early, and concisely with individuals at all organizational levels.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
