This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

Performs duties as lead nurse of Improved Pregnancy Outcome (Maternity) program.

Oversight of Maternity clinical operations to ensure adequate and timely clinic flow and delivery of care. Assess provision of care to ensure efficient delivery of care while supporting patient safety and satisfaction.

Completes case management duties in all clinics with emphasis on Maternity clinic to include follow-up care, referrals, patient education and treatment, communication with clinicians,

Provides nursing care and applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients.

Performs professional public health nursing duties such as, interviewing, assessment, counseling, treatment, delegation, and prioritization of patient care.

Performs indicated nursing duties and related activities according to established policies and procedures including but not limited to administering prescribed medication, assisting clinicians, and performs follow-up and compliance.

Assists in management of clinical operations and ensures clinic operates efficiently.

Utilizes electronic health records and programs accurately and correctly.

Conducts medication reconciliation. Maintains adequate medication inventory, and orders medications as needed.

Maintains clinic supplies and inventory.

Conducts periodic review of medical records, nursing service reports, and clinical audits.

Assumes charge of clinical operations in the absence of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director.

Participates in continuing education, in-services, trainings, staff and supervisor meetings and transports oneself thereto.

Completes and submits required time management documentation.

Participates in preparation of clinic rooms and equipment.

Performs related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of nursing principles and scope of practice.

Knowledge in assessing patient health problems and needs.

Knowledge in developing and implementing nursing care plans and maintaining medical records.

Knowledge of computer software including applications and EHR.

Knowledge of Public Health Practices.

Knowledge of medical equipment and instrumentation, room preparation and sterile instruments and related procedures including assisting clinicians with procedures.

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of training or instruction.

Knowledge of nursing care and the nursing process.

Ability to administer and deliver nursing care and advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.

Ability to perform case management and provide ongoing assessment, evaluation, and follow-up for clinical services.

Ability to perform physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, etc.

Ability to lift 20 pounds.

Ability to read, understand, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to prepare various reports and statistical data.

Ability to assess medical supply inventory, medication inventory, and reordering needs.

Ability to supervise employees, determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure completion of assignments.

Ability to train others and assess employee work performance.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

Current Florida Department of Health Employee

Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

Willing to travel to various locations in Brevard County

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field and current state Registered Nursing License

At least two years’ experience in the following areas as a Registered Nurse: Public Health, Outpatient clinical care, Maternity/Obstetrics, Family Planning, Immunizations, and Women’s Health.

At least two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse where most clinical care and nursing duties was spent working in Maternity/Obstetrical care.

Preferred :

Experience working as a supervisor, shift lead, preceptor, or other related leadership position(s) on a regular basis .
