Health First Manager of Sterile Processing - Sterile Processing in Melbourne, Florida
POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: overseeing the operation of the Central Services Department/SPD; assessing and maintaining standards of practice for reprocessing reusable medical devices and equipment; developing and ensuring adherence to high standards of performance; providing for the education of staff; fostering an environment where each associate contributes to the overall success of the team.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Utilizing the behavioral interview process, selects staff with qualifications that are appropriate to the needs of the unit.
- Meets with associates on a regular basis to problem solve and communicate pertinent information.
- Maintains an environment conducive to optimum safety for department, visitors, and staff.
- Serves as an expert resource by effectively leading team utilizing teambuilding and communication skills.
- Conducts timely and periodic performance appraisals based on pre-established standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of disciplinary process. Securely maintains confidential information, personnel files, supporting documents and all other personnel matters. Conducts disciplinary conferences for individuals not following hospital policy/procedure or whose actions necessitate corrective action. Documents individual counseling and disciplinary actions with employee at all times.
- Ensures compliance with all standards of practice within department in compliance with regulatory agencies for reprocessing and sterilization of reusable medical devices, procurement and assemblage of supplies, carts and instruments.
- Assumes 24-hour accountability for unit activities.
- Provision of leadership by demonstrating critical thinking, conflict management and problem solving skills.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: * Certification from IAHCSMM preferred. * Certification in related areas may be accepted (i.e. CNOR, CIC/Infection Control Practitioner). * Minimum of two (2) years Central Service Leadership experience. * Minimum of three (3 ) years of experience in health care medical device reprocessing with a focus on surgical instrumentation. * Must be able to speak/understand the written and verbal instructions in the English language. * Sound management and organizational skills to include time management and problem solving. * Good communication and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated computer skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. * Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range. * Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push equipment. * Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted. * Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop.
