Team & Opportunity

Protecting investors is core to Vanguard’s mission, and our global risk function plays an important role in fulfilling our promise to clients by enabling risk-based decisions, protecting client assets, and stewarding a strong risk culture. The Investment and Finance Risk group of over 90 professionals who support a range of risk management activities across the global investment management ecosystem. In this role, you will serve as the primary risk partner for the leadership of Australian investment and fund operations. You will work with business and risk partners across the enterprise to manage risk within regional and global business processes. You will develop and apply quantitative and qualitative risk frameworks to support effective risk guidance and oversight of Vanguard’s investment and fund operations in Australia.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serves as the key risk partner for investment and fund operations leadership in Australia, and provide risk guidance and oversight to enterprise and divisional partners.

  • Works independently and in teams to drive better business outcomes and manage risk for key business activities. Collaborates with risk partners globally to align resources, apply expertise, and develop a comprehensive view of risk across the global fund ecosystem.

  • Proactively guides and prioritizes risk management activities within the business. Sets measurable goals and examines ways to raise standards, to increase quality and to improve overall risk management efforts of the team. Monitors progress and measures departmental success in identifying and managing risk exposure.

  • Applies a strong understanding of regional regulatory requirements to risk assessments and recommendations.

  • Leads and assists the business in the development, implementation and management of short- and long-term risk management strategies in accordance with department goals and objectives as well as standard risk management policies and procedures.

  • Works with the business to mitigate risks and optimize process efficiency. Uses industry best practice knowledge to design effective controls, and makes recommendations for developing new risk management strategies for the business. Provides consultation, facilitation and analytical support to the management team as new products, services, processes and procedures are developed to ensure risk is properly mitigated.

  • Develops strong relationships across the enterprise to understand stakeholder needs and risks. Builds credibility as a thought partner.

  • Assesses the design of existing controls and make recommendations, leverages industry best practice for improvement as needed. Understands the risk management framework and utilizes the core concepts when discussing risk exposures with the business.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years related work experience, with two years experience in risk management.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Chartered Financial Analys or Chartered Accountant
