About the role:

In your role as Associate, you will play a key role in the national GCIB Credit & Portfolio Management team and will support the credit analysis and ongoing portfolio management of institutional customers (specifically Project Finance customers) within Australia.

The broader Portfolio team plays an important role in achieving the Bank’s risk & return targets through conducting annual credit reviews and credit monitoring in accordance with the Bank’s internal procedures. This role plays an integral part of this function through the successful completion of a range of day to day tasks, including: the management of PF customers in the Renewables & Infrastructure sector; periodic review of customer credit and risk profiles including the identification of risks via Early Warning Indicators; supporting the Portfolio Leads or PF Originators to manage credit related proposals for waivers and consents and/or new transactions respectively (incorporating deal structuring, preparing credit submissions, & historical and forward looking financial analysis); supporting the preparation of customer account plans, all whilst managing compliance with internal processes and policies and other ad hoc support to the Portfolio Lead.

What you’ll be doing:

Account Management

  • Credit responsibility following financial close and first disbursement, including Borrower Rating Reviews, Waivers and consent requests, Covenant checks including monitoring of key project KPI’s, Condition Instructions/Report Required, KYC review, progress of the “Action Plan” for Close Watch or Worse Borrowers, in accordance with MUFG credit and other policies

  • Assist with identification of strategies for underperforming credits including restructurings, facilitate discussions for exit or sell-down

  • Credit monitoring including project construction, operation and maintenance (including cash flow forecasting using financial models), covenant compliance, hedging, interest and fee payments, loan repayment, cash sweeps, disbursements (excluding initial disbursement ), and security

  • Assist Director/Sector Lead - Renewables with portfolio administration tasks, including portfolio reporting, as well as conducting periodic sector reviews to highlight emerging risks

Portfolio Management

  • Support the national CIB Credit & Portfolio team in the leadership of portfolio analysis, including a focus on sector risk / return and other strategic review processes

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years’ experience in institutional lending and credit research. We will also consider candidates from chartered accounting firms, investment banks, investment management, project developers or from a treasury team in general corporates

  • Solid mathematical knowledge, proficient Excel spreadsheet skills, research and analytical skills

  • Broad Australian industry, business and economic understanding

  • Be able to engage in independent research and analysis of customers and markets and apply critical thinking and a high level of attention to detail

  • The ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally.

  • Intermediate skills in:

  • credit writing

  • financial analysis and modelling

  • legal documentation and debt structuring.
