POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Legal Administrative Assistant Department: Attorney Job Code: 40203 Reports To: County Administration Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date: June 18, 2024

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides responsible legal assistance and technical support to the County Attorney. Provides support in the areas of preparing and processing legal documentation, researching/exchanging information, and providing confidential administrative support. Ensures that digital resources and platforms comply with accessibility standards (e.g., ADA compliance) to accommodate those with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Provides confidential support to professional legal staff. Such assistance and support generally include, but is not limited to, drafting, preparing, proofreading, and verifying a variety of reports, letters, memoranda, forms, pleadings, and motions. Prepares and uses templates and forms. Assists in maintaining the attorney calendar. ? Coordinates legal activities and documents with judicial and/or penal systems, and other appropriate agencies. ? Performs special projects and research as assigned. ? Maintains, indexes, and files correspondence and official documents utilizing current technologies to enter, store, and/or retrieve infor ? Defines and coordinates web page development by maintaining web-related policies, strategies, and standards such as acceptable use of web page content, data, and American Disabilities Act (ADA) web requirements. ? Develop and promote the use of web development standards such as templates, style sheets, or other electronic aids to assist in preparing appropriately formatted web documents so that all site data is ADA co ? Convert documents and videos, as necessary, to be ADA compliant.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ? Basic principles, concepts and methodology of legal proceedings and legal research. ? General office practices and procedures. ? Principles of legal writing. Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. ? Principles of effective writing and verbal presentation. ? Business math for completing non-technical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. ? Computerize information and database record keeping systems. ? Computer information systems, including personal computer applications, work processing and spreadsheets. ? Knowledge of Westlaw/Lexis/Nexis or other computerized legal research system(s). ? Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. ? Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attuned to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately. ? Show understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern; develops and maintains relationships; may deal with people who are difficult, hostile, distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and situations; is sensitive to individual differences. ? Read and comprehend rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures. ? Ability to learn technologies as necessary for the performance of duties. ? Knowledge of the organization of County government.

Education and/or Experience: Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. ? One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required. ? High school diploma or GED required.

Physical Demands: ? Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. ? Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on a computer screen. ? Digital dexterity to assemble, retrieve and r place files. ? Communicate by telephone. ? Endure prolonged periods of sitting.
