This position is assigned to the License & Theft Bureau District VI Office located at 12101 Mt Holly-Huntersville Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078.
The NCDMV License & Theft Bureau enforces all State and Federal laws which regulate motor vehicle operations, sales, inspection, maintenance, and auto theft, and conduct investigations that prevent frauds, impositions, and other abuses upon the citizens of the state of North Carolina. The DMV LE Supervisor (Captain) serves as a State Law Enforcement Officer who primarily supervises a regional District or specialized Unit within the License and Theft Bureau. This position directly supervises the DMV LE Assistant Supervisors (Lieutenants) within the assigned District. Employees supervised have statewide law enforcement authority within the subject matter jurisdiction granted by the North Carolina General Statutes. This position focuses on the long-term strategic planning and administration of the law enforcement functions and specific programs mandated by the North Carolina General Statutes. The position directs the administration and assists in the development of Agency-created programs, internal policies, regulations, and tasks that align with the mission and goals of the Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles and the License and Theft Bureau. This position directs the overall personnel, budgetary, and asset management functions within the assigned District in order to fulfill the mission, long term goals, and fiscal responsibility of the License and Theft Bureau.
A DMV LE Supervisor (Captain) manages an entire District consisting of 10 to 24 counties. This position is responsible for managing and mentoring DMV LE Inspector I, DMV LE Inspector II, Lieutenants, and administrative assistants. This position ensures investigations are assigned, investigated, documented, and prosecuted appropriately, and ensures all mandated regulatory goals are met annually.

Demonstrated ability investigating a variety of criminal cases, to interpret and apply criminal laws of North Carolina in investigations, to make arrest, to prepare comprehensive and detailed reports pertaining to individual cases, to present effective court testimony, and to apply the principles, techniques, and procedures of modern criminal investigation.
Demonstrated ability establishing and maintaining favorable working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, officers, District attorney’s offices and US attorney’s offices.
Demonstrated ability using tools and equipment involved in evidence collection and preservation effectively.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution, and two years of supervisory law enforcement experience in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
