Travel Utility Meter Technician (Short Term)

Grid One Solutions is seeking a full-time Utility Meter Technician willing to travel to join our organization supporting a project with Avangrid in NYSEG service area.

Grid One Solutions is seeking candidates that are local to the Plattsburg, NY and Mechanicsville, NY areas to join our deployment team. If hired short term travel will be required for training and to gain field experience until field operations begin in mid to late April 2025. Once field operations begin you will work in your local divisions and travel will be minimal. All accommodations will be handled by GOS.

As a Utility Meter Technician, you will perform the change out of existing electric meters. Install module upgrades to gas meters and assume responsibility for the safe operation of a company vehicle, equipment, and tools. Perform up to standards within time frames outlined by the Field Supervisor and Project Manager. In addition, you will learn how to utilize the computer system to plan and complete your daily work.

Job Type : Full-Time +, Non-Exempt

Pay:

  • $22.00 - $27.00 an hour based on experience.With regular performance reviews.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Perform change out of existing electric utility meters and installation of module upgrades to gas meters.

  • No experience is necessary, but utility meter installation and utility meter reading are preferred.

  • Ability to travel Monday through Friday in the NYSEG service areas.

  • Overtime hours may at times be required

  • Demonstrate safe, high-quality work practices in a team atmosphere

  • Performs up to standards within time frames outlined by Field Supervisor and Project Manager

  • Identify and report to management all hazardous working conditions and specifically those that prohibit the safe exchange of meters.

  • Commitment to customer service and responding to the needs of internal and external customers in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and the requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision.

  • Ability to walk between 6 to 8 miles per day

  • Ability to read meters and willingness to learn to operate new equipment and implement new procedures.

  • Ability to understand and obtain NY state required OQ i.e., #6 Inspecting for atmospheric corrosion, #70 Properties of natural gas, and #85 AOC of meter assembly.

  • Strong directional skills: the ability to read and understand maps via GPS instruments and websites, i.e., Garmin’s, Google Maps, Waze, etc.

  • Computer and smartphone literate.

  • Ability to read maps and navigate in congested areas.

  • Independently manage time and workload to meet deadlines.

  • This is a minimum 40-hour workweek with Saturdays considered inclement weather make-up days.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

  • Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred.

  • Experience in the use of hand and power tools.

  • 3+ years of driving experience with minimal non-moving violations.

License & Certifications:

  • A Valid Driver's License is required.

  • Valid Driver's License: Must have a clean Driving Record, free of any moving violations within the three years and without any suspensions (for any reason); minimal non-moving violations (less than three within the last five years)

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel Monday through Friday in the NYSEG service areas.

  • IRS Milage to drive personal vehicles from home to training or show up location. While working outside of your local division, for training and to gain experience.

  • Company-paid hotel room, 1 employee per room – no sharing required.

  • Weekly per diem

Physical Requirements:

  • Rare : (less than 10%): squatting, depth-perception, color-vision, crawling, pushing, pulling, seeing distance, climbing ladders, balancing, gripping.

  • Continuous : (up to 100%): seeing, reading, hearing-speech-range, speaking clearly.
