Construction Carpenter

The Construction Carpenter will build, erect, install, and repair forms, structures, signs, and other fixtures to assist with various types of construction projects.

American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance, and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments, and commercial road contractors.

Job Type: Full-Time +, Non-Exempt

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Layout, installation, repair, and maintenance of various structures, fixtures, and buildings.

  • Design and build formwork according to plans, including foundations, flat work, curbs, and ramps according to project requirements.

  • Perform general carpentry tasks, pour/finish concrete flat work.

  • Keep records of your time and materials used for each job.

  • Layout for anchor bolts, build templates and install in correct orientation.

  • Must be able to work independently.

  • Drives a company provided pick-up truck to and from project site.

  • Works around customers and the general public while maintaining a very high level of professionalism.

  • Other general construction duties as requested by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Skilled at framing and form carpentry consistent with industry standards.

  • Must be self-motivated and willing to learn.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Basic math skills.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient with industry hand and power tools.

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend written and verbal instructions/information.

  • Must be able to read construction drawings/details

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

  • A minimum of 1 year in the construction field is required.

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Driver License Required. CDL Preferred

Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel out of state for contract and/or emergency storm work as needed.

  • Weekly overnight travel within GA required. Frequency and length of stays are based on location of work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Job requires the ability to perform tasks in all areas and aspects of construction projects, including ability to:

  • climb all types of ladders.

  • work at heights and below grade as necessary.

  • work with tools, lumber, and other materials.

  • Lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 80 lbs.

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.
