MITRE is seeking highly motivated, adaptive, and enthusiastic candidates with a wide variety of interests and a foundation of skills in systems engineering, software engineering, information systems, or data engineering to join our department as a Senior Systems Engineer. Candidates should have a strong interest in addressing and solving challenges related to systems modernization and optimization, and applying systems engineering principles to support decision making and enabling mission processes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • This position will engage with multidisciplinary teams to provide business and technical expertise on the critical challenges and solutions influencing the modernization and optimization of large government systems and mission operations.

  • The role includes contributing to work products and activities that help sponsors make progress toward desired outcomes while meeting MITRE quality expectations.

  • These activities may include: technical and organizational strategic guidance; research; assessments; policy, system and data analytics; business and technical architecture and engineering that identify and support modernization initiatives. Local travel to sponsor locations as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Experience supporting the development and delivery of solutions including, but not limited to: enterprise and/or systems architecture and integration, strategic planning, strategic performance/outcome management, organizational change/transformation, business process analysis, requirements analysis, and risk analysis.

  • Experience translating user needs into requirements, leveraging knowledge of the domain and cutting-edge technology.

  • Ability to communicate and synthesize complex requirements that enable and inform policy, organizational and technical outcomes.

  • Ability to evaluate alternatives to derive and develop architectures, plans, and designs by using analytic techniques.

  • Ability to support and drive activities and deliverables to meet sponsor outcomes.

  • Experience in performing independent assessments to inform strategic decision making.

  • Desire to continuously learn new techniques and evolve approaches by regularly engaging in structured educational pursuits, personal research, and outreach to subject matter experts across the corporation

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, systems engineering, software engineering, or information systems.

  • Department of Commerce domain knowledge

  • NOAA domain knowledge and experience

  • Direct experience working with senior-level leadership on government engagements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – discretion, diplomacy, and tact.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Passion for excellence and demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to the development of high-quality deliverables.
