Department Summary:

Are you experienced in Embedded Systems and Reverse Engineering with a keen interest in Cyber Warfare Operations or Cyber/Digital Network Exploitation Analysis? Have you worked with or have a passion for dissecting and understanding the intricacies of embedded systems to support a Deterrence mission? The Cyber Physical Deterrence Technologies (L543) department is dedicated to developing capabilities and technologies that prevent adversaries from compromising our critical infrastructure. This involves technical deterrence strategies such as forensics, attribution, device countermeasures, adversary emulation, and deception capabilities. Policy-based strategies are also crucial in executing the deterrence mission, including establishing normative behaviors and coordinated response options to reduce ambiguity around cybersecurity capabilities and their potential consequences. L543 scrutinizes both domestic and foreign embedded systems and technologies for hardware and software vulnerabilities. CIPIC views deterrence as a comprehensive capability achieved through both technical and non-technical means, with the Policy Support core LOE being a significant focus for L543.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Deterrence Technologies Department is seeking an Embedded Reverse Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will engage with and gain expertise in the following areas:

  • Multi-architecture Reverse-engineering

  • Analysis of Embedded Systems and Protocols

  • Assembly Languages (x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, etc.)

  • Reverse Engineering and Debugging Tools (e.g., Ghidra, IDA Pro, Emulators)

  • Operating System Internals/Driver development

  • Computer Networking & Security

  • Vulnerability Discovery and Analysis

  • Developing C and Python software or capabilities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline

  • Strong desire to contribute to national security by solving critical challenges

  • Ability to collaborate with others to address complex technical issues

  • Experience with Reverse Engineering and Debugging Tools (Ghidra, IDA Pro, Emulators, etc.)

  • Experience with Assembly Languages (x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC, etc.)

  • Experience reverse engineering compiled binaries

  • Experience programming in C and Python

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full Scope Polygraph clearance

  • Experience with various IDEs (MS Visual Studio, Eclipse, etc.) and collaboration tools

  • Experience extending Ghidra functionality via Java and Python

  • Experience with Linux and Linux command line tools

  • Experience with software development principles, tools, and techniques

  • Experience with software development in both higher and lower-level languages

  • Advanced experience with three or more of the basic qualifications

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$123,000 - $154,000 - $185,000 Annual
