Risk Manager

As a Risk Manager within Capital One’s Commercial Bank you’ll be responsible for working with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One, working in our first line of defense to ensure our company remains well-managed. You will create and modify processes while collaborating with smart and passionate leaders to influence results that have a direct impact on the way we work. Additionally, you will be responsible for enhancing the risk infrastructure supporting multiple teams and business units.

We are looking for highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational and communication skills. This role provides a high level of exposure across different lines of business (LOB) and the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions to identify and mitigate potential risks to the company. Commercial Bank Risk Advisors navigate unstructured problems and manage change while demonstrating superior problem-solving skills, strong business judgment, and executive presence.

Responsibilities :

  • Develop business strategies that will drive risk mitigation, well managed focus, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands

  • Develop risk strategies and provide risk advisory to the Commercial Bank as well as associates aligned to data roles, such as Data Producers, Data Consumers, Performing Data Stewards, LOB Managing Data Stewards and Divisional Data Risk Officers

  • Lead External Data Sharing program and partner with Third Party Risk program

  • Review, analyze, develop, and/or execute processes for various functions across the risk office and business areas

  • Perform proactive risk analysis and drive action on mitigation recommendations to address potential and emerging risks, gaps or breakdowns

  • Resolve any data issues and identify ownership for data breakdowns (models, alerts, etc.)

  • Gather data and reporting; perform initial analysis or potentially evaluate data

  • Drive effective collaboration with business stakeholders and risk office partners

  • Partner with business to research and resolve risk events stemming from process breakdowns and provide solutions to ensure breakdowns do not reoccur

  • Design and document effective controls in our control environment, collaborating with partner teams to assess and recommend improvements as needed

  • Collaborate with business and risk office partners in root cause analysis for ineffective results

  • Manage quality assurance and quality control review assessments on processes, procedures and control results

  • Apply sound inquiry and analysis to make recommendations and decisions

  • Leverage process understanding to assess risk exposure and implement enhancements to processes and controls

  • Manage multiple tasks independently to meet deadlines

  • Coordinate work between multiple areas and engage in multiple work streams, simultaneously; leveraging/influencing business partners to drive results

  • Create an engagement model between the product teams and the operation and machine learning teams to manage and communicate risk

  • Support internal audits and regulatory exams

  • Assess risk with Models and Computation & Automation and execute controls to ensure that we are providing proper oversight and governance

Successful Risk Managers will exhibit :

  • Excellent problem solving & influencing skills - ability to maintain relationships with key partners

  • Ability to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

  • At least 3 years of Risk Management experience

  • At least 2 years of Project Management experience

  • At least 3 years of Data Management or Data Process experience

  • At least 2 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

P referred Qualifications :

  • 4+ years of Data Management or Data Process experience

  • 3+ years of Risk Management Controls Framework experience

  • 3+ years Data Privacy experience

  • 2+ years of Financial Services Risk Management experience

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects in Risk

  • 3+ years of internal relationship management experience
