Asphalt Binder and Mixture Research and Development Engineer

Full-Time in McLean, VA - IML

Genex Systems seeks a highly skilled and innovative Asphalt Binder and Mixture Research and Development Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and conducting research projects focused on asphalt binder and mixture development, enhancement, and optimization.

Location: Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center, McLean, Virginia

Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development: Design, plan, and execute research projects related to asphalt binders and mixtures to improve performance, durability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Experimentation: Conduct laboratory experiments, tests, and analyses to evaluate asphalt binder and mixture properties, aggregate characteristics, and mixture designs.

  • Quality Control: Develop and implement quality control procedures for asphalt binders and mixtures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.

  • Innovation: Identify and explore new technologies, materials, and methodologies to enhance asphalt binder performance and optimize mixture compositions.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including chemists, civil engineers, and technicians, to achieve research goals and project objectives.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive reports, technical documents, scientific papers, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.

  • Problem-solving: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to asphalt binder and mixture performance through systematic analysis and innovative solutions.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with industry regulations, standards, and best practices to ensure adherence in research and development activities.

  • Supervisory: The chosen candidate will oversee a team of lab technicians, offering guidance, support, and direction to ensure the efficient and precise execution of laboratory procedures.

  • Reporting: The selected candidate will report directly to the Asphalt Binder and Mixture Lab Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Civil, Mechanical, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in asphalt binder and mixture research and development within the construction or infrastructure industry.

  • Strong knowledge of asphalt binder and mixtures properties, performance testing, and mixture design principles.

  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques, data analysis tools, and software relevant to asphalt research. Proficiency in utilizing AI algorithms and expertise in Finite Element Modeling techniques are highly desirable skills for this position, enabling innovative problem-solving and advanced analysis within our dynamic team environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Effective communication skills with the capability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.

  • Demonstrated project management abilities and a track record of delivering results within specified timelines.

Notes:

  • Travel: Occasional travel may be necessary to attend conferences and technical meetings.

  • In-office Work Requirement: This is not a remote position.

  • US residency requirement: Must be US resident for the last 3 years.
