Summary:  Operate manual and computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts, load parts into machine, sets up & monitors machine cycles, detects malfunctions, inspects machinery for damaged cutting tools. Communicates with co-workers and management problems, issues or unusual events.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *   The Journeyman Maintenance Machinist performs the following duties:

1. Performs typical machine shop operations and receives instructions, prints, and work orders
2. Interprets drawings and sketches; plans and determines working procedure
3. Performs any layout work and makes sketches of parts as required
4. Calculates and determines dimensions, tapers, indexes, and other data using shop formulas and handbooks as necessary.  Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.
5. Must be able to perform, but not limited to, the following tasks: milling, turning, drilling, tapping, de-burring, sawing and stamping.
6. Selects and grinds tools for the job in accordance with hardness, machine-ability and other properties of parts to be machined
7. Procures or makes jigs, fixtures, or machine attachments required for the job
8. Sets up and operates machine tools, adjusting stops, feeds and speeds for efficient machining
9. Machines parts to precision tolerances and specified finishes
10. Uses precision measuring instruments as needed
11. Dismantles machinery and equipment when required
12. Assembles, fits, aligns, and adjusts machinery and equipment to very close tolerances
13. Works in shop as required and maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.
14. Read gages, Micrometer, tape measures, blueprints, schematics and complete and pass a math test
15. Complete and maintain paperwork for parts.

Job Requirements:  Must have state certified journeyman machinist card.  Working knowledge of machining, tolerances, gages, specifications, and blueprints.  Ability to use mathematical calculations, set up precision machinery with understanding of equipment operations and capabilities.  Ability to use hand tools common to the trade.

Working Conditions:

Operators may occasionally be required to leave area for various reasons and can include climate areas that are consistent with outside weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to stand; walk; sit, use PC, reach with hands and arms; bend, stoop, use telephone, use hand tools and, and visually inspect product.   Due to the nature of this position the vast majority of activities are visual inspection and monitoring of machine,

Cylinders are large opened ended steel cylinders with tapered and machined ends to accommodate caps or components that vary from 12' -- 40' in length and can weigh as much as 5,000lbs.
