POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: UTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER
DUTIES
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to maintain and repair public
utilities such as water lines, water meters, sewers, etc. as directed.
PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees
may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Performs daily maintenance of waterline and sanitary sewer.
May answer emergency calls 24/7 from the Fire and Police Department notifying of waterline
breaks or sewer problems.
Troubleshoot and locate water break: Dig up problem area; Prepare line for repair: Clamp or
replace section of line: Back fill area.
Troubleshoot and locate problem with sewer line; Dig up problem area; Flush line with flush
truck; Repair sewer line if needed; Clean up job area.
Mark location of water and sewer lines to repair water meters.
Operates light to heavy equipment (i.e., Gradall, Back-Hoe, Uniloader, Steel Wheel Roller, Front
End Loader) based on work assignment.
May use small hand tools such as shovels, broom, rakes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education Requirements refers to job specific training and
education required for entry into the position.
Prefer High School diploma, GED or formal training.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Licenses, Certifications,
and Registrations refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations
required to enter the position.
Requires valid drivers license. Requires class D water and sewer operators license. May require
CDL drivers license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience Requirements refers to the amount of work
experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation
that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Requires one year of related experience.
