Summary You will serve as a Machinist in the Voyage Repair Team of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER. Responsibilities You will machine surfaces at unusual or compound angles and set up and operate conventional, computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, milling machines, vertical and horizontal mills, radial drills, thread grinders, and lathes. You will to determine speeds, feeds and coolants, lubricants or abrasives to be used to cut, turn or finish an item. You will operate computer numerically controlled machine tools for jobs. You will utilize precision measuring devices such as vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, height gages, squares, surface gages, dial indicators, etc. and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Manufacturing parts of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metal and other materials to perform machining work in the manufacture of castings, forging and other fabrications. 2) Setting up and operating computer numerically controlled machine tools for jobs which require planning to use procedures as multiple set ups, in-place machining of fixtures and suggesting changes to machine tool programs. 3) Accomplishing untried tasks and procedures such as determining the right type of tool steel, rake and clearance angles needed ton a cutting tool, and the correct machine speeds and feeds to cut a particular metal. 4) Translate work orders, drawings, and specifications that are often lacking in such dimensions, tolerances and types of fits and finishes. 5) Using advanced shop mathematics, including geometric and trimetric formulas, and handbook formulas to compute dimensions and plan work. 6) Using machine surfaces at unusual or compound angles to set up and operate conventional, computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, milling machines, vertical and horizontal mills, radial drills, thread grinders, and lathes.
