This role is responsible for undertaking System Administration operations in a classified IT environment. This includes:

  • Proactive administration of IT environments, ensuring system availability, performance and integrity maintained in line with agreed plans.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve IT system issues as they arise.

  • Plan and install hardware and software products in line with organisation standards.

  • Manage system accounts, permissions and directory operations and ensure service delivery staff have the necessary up-to-date information for account administration activities.

  • Monitoring of backup systems, recovery of data and archiving.

  • Monitoring of systems including alert management, event logs, security logs, batches, performance, availability and capacity planning.

  • Providing diagnostics and fault resolution for computing hardware and common software services including coordinating support with other internal support services and external partners and suppliers.

  • Assisting in the technical design and setting of operational requirements for the development and maintenance of IT disaster recovery plans and business continuity plans for network and communications services.

  • Providing maintenance support of the data centre facilities for physical security, environmental systems, monitoring, power and structured cabling infrastructure.

  • Providing security awareness and advice to system users, customers and system administrators on standards and best practices.

  • Providing system security administration and advice to develop system security plans and achieve ‘approval to operate’ in accordance with company security standards.

  • Providing information system security administration and advice on the development of controls and documentation to achieve and maintain export/import control certification.

    Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience and responsibility for making minor changes or enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve the effectiveness of work area.

  • Ability to set and achieve day-to-day objectives for own area of responsibility to meet the objectives or goals of projects and work assignments that have a moderate impact on the work area.

  • Skilled in understanding server and storage standards, including requirements gathering, analysis, design and associated technologies.

  • Skilled in translating business concepts into technically derived solutions.

  • Advanced skills in diagnosing complex technical faults.

  • Skilled in configuration and use of infrastructure management tools.

  • Basic knowledge in developing and testing system recovery and continuity plans.

  • Basic knowledge in conceptualising innovative solutions, documenting them, and presenting/promoting them.

  • Basic understanding of feasibility studies and skilled in developing proposals comprising estimates for costs, time and resources.

  • Skilled in monitoring system performance and capacity trends and able to make recommendations that drive future system changes.

  • Maintains knowledge of platforms and infrastructure technology trends and standards.

  • Skilled in security standards and system hardening techniques in relation to end user devices, particularly in regard to application whitelisting and end point control.

  • Basic knowledge of risk assessment procedures, policy formation, role-based authorisation methodologies,

  • authentication technologies, and security attack pathologies.

  • Demonstrated skills in creating and maintaining quality documentation and showing sound written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skills in resolving difficult issues through a systematic and logical problem-solving approach across IT Server and Storage Infrastructure.

  • Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical problems.

  • Minimum of an AGSVA NV1 Clearance, with the ability to gain and maintain an AGSVA NV2 security clearance.
