SUMMARY

Receives instruments, certain linens and other materials from stock or retrieves from units within the hospital such as Operating Room, Labor & Delivery, nursing units, etc.
Sorts, wraps and sterilizes equipment and supplies following written outline for preparation of a variety of surgical procedure trays, nursing unit standard supply requirements, etc. Checks condition of material and equipment to assure proper quality.

STATUS: Part-time

LOCATION: Massena Hospital

DEPARTMENT: SPD

SCHEDULE: 8 hour variable

ATTRIBUTES

• Required: High school graduate or equivalent
  
• Required: Certification by the Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) upon hire or must obtain within two years of hire.
  
• Preferred: Basic understanding of various functions of the department. Conscientious regard for technical and minute procedures.
  
• Preferred: Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature of items and equipment used by the department.
  
• Preferred: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operates steam and ETO gas sterilizers
  
• Maintain extra supplies
  
• Updates file cards and maintains daily records
  
• Participates in continuing education programs in the hospital and in outside seminars and workshops.
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $16.76 - $22.43

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
