Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic front line Manager of Survivability Engineering that is a technical leader and organization contributor to join our Specialty Engineering team in Mason, Ohio. The successful candidate will lead approximately 10 direct reports in the Survivability Engineering group, assign tasks, responsible for approvals, evaluate team performance, set forth projects/processes to grow capabilities, support bid and proposals, mentor new hires, and facilitate communications to/from the team. The Survivability Engineering manager will not only provide coaching and leadership development for the direct staff but will also work contracts and program task to ensure customer requirements are achieved.

Essential Functions:

The Front Line Engineering Manager has responsibilities that align with four (4) key functions.

  • Direct application of domain expertise on programs.

  • Maintain domain competency and apply it through technical guidance, collaboration, or individual task execution on program activities.

  • Define, maintain, and improve the function’s lowest level development processes and best practices.

  • Ensure staff are properly using best practices and the development processes on their assigned programs.

  • Ensure quality of proposal materials / inputs and Estimates To Complete (ETCs).

  • Resource management and planning.

  • Provide regular labor and resource planning to support programs and activities.

  • Actively support all phases of hiring activities for the team

  • Support management of morale and work to proactively mitigate attrition.

  • Support succession planning and identification/development of key talent.

  • Administration and management of employees.

  • Carry out performance management and goal setting of all direct reports, both formal and informal. Provide meaningful, constructive feedback to ensure the development of each staff member.

  • Lead performance improvement plan formulation and execution as needed.

  • Proactively support reward and recognition activities for the staff members. Develop and submit merit recommendations during the yearly merit review cycle.

  • Perform conflict resolution between teammates as required.

  • Career development of employees.

  • Take an active role in the professional development of each staff member. May include identification, guidance, and support of formal training, on-the-job training, mentoring, and/or new program assignments.

  • Proactively mentor, coach, assist, and/or provide additional help to engineers in the analysis, design, build, integration, test, validation, verification, documentation, and/or maintenance of products.

  • Foster an individual and team culture of Continuous Improvement (CI)

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior military/defense contract experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior military/defense contract experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 12 years of prior military/defense contract experience.

  • Experience with total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.

  • Demonstrated ability to Perform reliability prediction calculations (e.g., MTBF) for electronic and electro-optical systems, and prepare System Reliability Analysis Reports for submission to customers.

  • Experience to create radiation testing plans and in radiation effect on electronic systems and components.

  • Prior experience in engineering management

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD clearance, which requires US citizenship.

  • Able to travel up to 10% for radiation testing or vendor audits.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management

  • Capacity to teach and mentor others

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well within and outside of the organization including with customers, vendors, and company or program leadership without oversight.

  • Demonstrates ability to take initiative to eliminate barriers and uses resources to ensure desired results

  • Capability to make complex decisions across the hardware development lifecycle

  • Aptitude to collaborate effectively with other leadership functions across the organization including Operations, Quality, Program Management, and Business Development

  • Experience with creating engineering estimates, plans, and BOE’s

  • Knowledge in development and implementation of Product Safety Plans

  • Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.

  • Prior experience in space and defense

  • Proficient in people management, evaluations, and team building.

  • Six Sigma Certification

  • Demonstrated experience in preparing customer and/or management level briefings.

  • In-depth experience in development of technical and cost proposals.

  • Failure Analysis (FA) and experience troubleshooting.

  • Certification in System Safety

  • Ability to drive change in a technical work environment.
