Astellas Pharma Canada (APCA) is currently searching for a Lead – In Market TA/Product Training Canada (Associate Director).

Purpose and Scope

  • This Associate Director Role (GG17) reports to the Head -Global TA/Product Training / EST -C In Market Training and collaborates closely with various departments and stakeholders. While this position may not have direct reports, it plays a foundational role in Global Commercial Learning and Development and contributes to the organization's strategic plans through effective collaboration and implementation of tactics.

  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive training programs for Astellas staff, focusing on product and disease state knowledge. This role plays a strategic function in identifying training needs, collaborating with global and local teams, and shaping the overall training strategy in Canada to enhance sales results and uphold ethical and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Localize global learning content, design, and deliver training programs/modules on company products, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal standards.

  • Develop and execute initial Disease State and Product Training courses for new Astellas KAMs fostering positive group dynamics and promoting ethical sales practices.

  • Collaborate with various departments include Marketing and Sales and Medical to identify and address training needs, adapting programs based on feedback and evolving industry trends.

  • Analyze and evaluate training effectiveness through using sound evaluation strategies, and key performance indicators, proposing modifications as necessary.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation, staying abreast of industry developments and incorporating digital learning strategies into training programs.

  • Conduct field visits and provide coaching recommendations to KAMs on call fluency and impact.

  • Support the SBMS and Field Sales creating local content for sales meetings and pull thru training.

  • This role will have a strong focus on the Ophthalmology portfolio, and responsibilities will expand to other therapeutic areas (Women’s Health & Oncology) as time allows and business needs evolve.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 10+ year’s pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience with 5+ years in Training Functions.

  • Advanced strategic thinking and planning skills with global vision building capabilities.

  • Strong scientific and educational knowledge, coupled with intellectual curiosity and analytical skills.

  • Fluent in English with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to summarize complex information and produce dashboards for hierarchical superiors.

  • Demonstrated learning and development leadership, management planning, organizing and execution skills.

  • Advanced collaboration, communication (oral and written), and administrative management skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Pharmaceutical / Biotech industry.

  • Leadership, Teamwork and Team Building are essential.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in understanding and interpreting the changing pharmaceutical landscape and how it affects our business model.

  • Innovative, creative and detail oriented.

  • Strong knowledge of current healthcare environment and market drivers.

  • Strategic thinking capacity in developing ideas and business opportunities.

  • Strong business acumen: project management, vendor management, and budget management capabilities.

  • Ability to work well with multiple areas of the organization including Commercial and non-Commercial across all Astellas global functions.

  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Well-developed presence, professional maturity, judgment, and critical thinking.

  • Strong background in development of experiential training and accelerated learning techniques.

  • Strong stand-up facilitation skills with corporate employee population, managers, and leaders; must be able to effectively deliver to a high-level senior audience.

  • Proven examples of Leadership, Team Building and People Development.

  • Up to 15% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Health Sciences or Business fields relative to function.

  • 15th years pharmaceutical

  • Oncology and/or Ophthalmology sales experience preferred.

  • Previous scientific training responsibility
