GE Vernova Canada Senior Licensing Specialist in Markham, Ontario

Job Description Summary

The Canada Senior Licensing Specialist, Regulatory Affairs, based in Canada, will complete various technical licensing work scopes in Canada, including new reactor licensing for the BWRX-300 Advanced Nuclear Project, operating fleet licensing support, customer plant support on GE Hitachi (GEH) / Global Nuclear Fuels (GNF) nuclear methods, and working with GEH / GNF Engineering and Regulatory Affairs teams on major projects.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • As the Canada Senior Licensing Specialist, Regulatory Affairs, you will perform the following for GEH reactors to be deployed in Canada:

  • Participate under the direction of theCanadian Technical Leader, Regulatory Affairs, in task associated with the nuclear regulatory review process with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)

  • Coordinate with GEH/GNF Engineering and NPPL Regulatory Affairs teams in support of the nuclear regulatory review process

  • Coordinate, prepare, and review input to new reactor licensing application submittals

  • Coordinate and prepare licensing reports including preparation of responses to the customer or regulator

  • Interface with customers, regulatory personnel, contractors, and industry working groups on regulatory issues, and to secure applicable permissions and approvals related to work scopes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 5 years related professional work experience OR Master's Degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 3 years of related professional work experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience performing / providing input into nuclear safety evaluations, including satisfaction of regulatory requirements for nuclear regulatory documents

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience involving complex projects, and providing regulatory guidance and feedback to support those projects

Eligibility Requirements

Work two days onsite a week in GEH office in Markham, ON

Desired Characteristics

  • 5 or more years of experience with Canada nuclear requirements and guidance

  • 5 or more years in Canada new power plant licensing including the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) pre-application process and new power plant site licensing

  • Management experience in Regulatory Affairs or large engineering projects

  • Civil Engineering Experienceand experience applicable to BWR containment

  • Working knowledge of boiling water reactor (BWR) systems, fuel, or operations, with specific experience with Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) or Economically Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR) engineering or licensing desired

  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in working / communicating with nuclear regulators

  • Experience working with nuclear industry groups

  • International licensing experience

  • Effective interpersonal and facilitation skills

  • Process skills related to coordinating and documenting complex technical documents

  • Externally focused: takes action to enhance the reputation of the company/represents the company well at all opportunities

  • Clear thinker: communicates messages clearly and concisely with the ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information / ability to sift through complex information and focus on critical few priorities

  • Assess potential impacts of regulatory landscape on business and customers

  • Strong business and financial acumen

  • Ability to work effectively with technical leaders
