Job Description: TheBinder Lab Technicianreports to the Binder Lab Manager and completes testing of asphalt binder per AASHTO, ASTM, and other test procedures as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (KMI will train/mentor): Conducting a variety of tests on asphalt binders to ensure compliance with Superpave Performance Graded (PG) specifications. Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment such as Dynamic Shear Rheometers (DSR), Bending Beam Rheometers (BBR), and Pressure Aging Vessels (PAV) Maintaining neat data worksheets as they apply to each project as required by the lab's accreditation and standard operating procedures. Applying best practices for testing asphalt binder Staying up to date with industry standards and participating in training sessions Clearly communicate project progress during group meetings Maintain a clean and orderly workspace and in the lab. Maintain a technician rating of 3 or greater during participation in AASHTO resource's proficiency program. Skills and Abilities (KMI will train/mentor): Strong attention to detail Possess good mathematical skills Knowledge of asphalt quality control processes Experience with asphalt lab equipment Physical Demands: Handling hot asphalt samples, wearing required PPE Ability to stand / walk +/-8 hours Lab setting Work Environment: 8-hour workday Evenings or weekends may be required Travel may be required Must have reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement program included with position) Qualifications and Experience: Experience in Asphalt Binder testing is preferred but not required High School Diploma.
