Clean Harbors Hazardous Materials Chemist in Manhattan Beach, California

Clean Harbors – Manhattan Beach, CA is looking for a Field Chemist to join their safety conscious team. This person would be responsible for assisting in the collection, identification, and proper packaging and/or lab packing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and spill response at client site in Manhattan Beach, CA.

This position is NOT a laboratory-based position

Key Responsibilities:

• Make waste pickups at labs as needed.

• Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restrictions notifications.

• Identify unknown laboratory chemicals when they are encountered.

• Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.

• Inspect storage area for leaks or spills.

• Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.

• Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.

• Sampling and profiling of new waste streams or any wastes needing analytical testing.

• Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork.

• Utilize CHOICE waste management software to efficiently and accurately manage waste program.

• Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal.

• Maintain and manage waste profile data.

• Evaluate specialty waste materials such as gas cylinders and potentially explosive compounds and determine disposal options.

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;

  • Chemistry background is required;

  • Lab Packing experience is preferred;

  • Attention to detail, able to take and follow direction, and to perform multiple tasks;

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;

  • Clean driving record;

  • Class C CDL with HazMat Endorsement preferred;

  • Ability to interface with customers.
