Eastern Connecticut Health Network Laundry Aide in Manchester, Connecticut
POSITION SUMMARY: The Laundry Aid is responsible for meeting the linen needs of all departments throughout the hospital. The Laundry Aid collects soiled linens and delivering clean linens throughout the hospital. Responsible for monitoring and documenting linen usage and notifying management if more linen is needed. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
High school diploma or equivalent GED is desirable but not required.
A basic knowledge of the English language sufficient enough to speak, read and write simple notes is necessary.
The employee must be able to pass ECHN’s annual mandatory education, pass a physical examination as required by ECHN and demonstrate the ability to use Linen Room delivery equipment and supplies.
COMPETENCIES:
The incumbent must be able to understand simple verbal and written instructions in English as well as be able to speak, read and write simple English to communicate with internal customers, outside vendors, co-workers and Environmental department management.

Job-Specific Competency
Following infection control and safety guidelines, picks up soiled linens throughout the hospital.
Delivers soiled linens to the laundry sort room. Logs linen usage per department; sorts, bags and weighs linen in preparation for outside cleaning service pick-up.
Retrieves clean linens delivered by the outside cleaning service, while inspecting for soiled or damaged items, sorts and stocks linens on laundry carts for delivery to departments. Sets aside soiled or damaged items.
Notifies management of all items damaged or not properly cleaned so that a credit from the outside cleaning firm may be obtained.
Delivers clean linens to various locations throughout the hospital.
Receives and responds to immediate linen need requests from departments and delivers linens in a courteous and timely manner.
Makes alterations to PAR levels and adjusts department linen deliveries based on usage.
Trains new Laundry Aids.
Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the linen drop-off and sorting area.
