Ethicon, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting an Operator Mechanic I. This position will be based at the San Lorenzo facility for approximately 4 months following the start date. Subsequently, the position will be based at the Manatí facility. Ethicon is expanding its manufacturing operations to Manatí, Puerto Rico. Resources hired will work in San Lorenzo temporarily until the Manatí Manufacturing Facility is operational.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs equipment set-up and changeover in a timely manner.

  • The individual will produce different sizes and types of products of high quality and predetermined production outputs.

  • Perform suture and needles change over as required with a high degree of proficiency.

  • Optimize machine performance by observing operating conditions; replenish raw materials and removing product that has cycled through the machine.

  • Use initiatives to assure efficient machine operations and high-quality standards.

  • Is responsible for the troubleshooting and corrective actions of the assigned equipment to minimize downtime. In the event that a Maintenance Technician is required he/she will assist the Maintenance Technician.

  • Is responsible for the coordination and execution of Preventive Maintenance to the assigned equipment.

  • Read diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturing specifications related to assigned equipment.

  • Use machine interface software to control machine and document batch information.

  • Troubleshoots computerized equipment.

  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.

  • Assure proper use of all personal protective equipment, if required, to safely perform the job as necessary.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/facilitator.

  • Follow current compliance regulations and standards.

  • Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronic Technology, Electronics, Industrial Mechanics, or related technical field is preferred or in leu of, High School Diploma and 2 years of experience in a regulated industry or professional experience will be required.

  • Basic computer management skills are required.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills are required.

  • Requires initiative, creativity, assertiveness and troubleshooting abilities.

  • Ability to perform repetitive manual movements (fine manipulation) and/or the requirement to lift an approximate weight of 16-30 lbs from the ground is required.

  • Availability to work overtime, various work schedules, which may include 1st, 2nd, 3rd shifts and/or 12-hour daily shifts, including weekends and holidays is required.

  • This role is classified as Safety Sensitive due to the risk exposure associated with mechanical intervention work. To the extent permitted by applicable law, periodic, unannounced urine drug testing may be required up to three times a year as a condition for employees in positions identified as “safety sensitive” to continue working.

  • Position will initially be based in San Lorenzo until the Manatí Facility is operational and, as a result, the incumbent is transferred. During the period that the incumbent reports to the San Lorenzo facility, this facility will be considered the employee’s work center. Once transferred to the Manatí facility, the incumbent’s work center will be changed to the Manatí site.

  • Availability to travel up to 10% is required.
