Development Authority of the North Country Water Quality Technician in Malone, New York
The successful candidate will primarily work in and around Franklin and St. Lawrence counties and must be within 30 minutes of the Village of Malone to respond to call-outs. Employees are assigned a company truck and tools for daily travel from their home to assigned route.
Job Summary: The Water Quality Technician assists certified Operators in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems. The Water Quality Technician may work independently, interact with customers, and have specifically assigned duties and responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities: Assist certified Operators with performance of daily operations, water and wastewater testing, data input, meter readings or repairs, service installations or disconnections, pump and pump station maintenance or repair, and other duties. Use various hand tools and other mechanical devices in performance of their duties and general maintenance of Authority owned and operated facilities. Locate underground facilities owned or operated by the Authority. Utilize Authority SCADA, GIS, Computerized Maintenance Management, and HACH WIMs systems to support operational and maintenance activities. Manage and respond to on-call duties as assigned, ensuring prompt attention to emergencies, urgent issues, or unexpected situations outside of regular working hours. This includes being available for immediate contact and intervention as needed, coordinating with relevant team members, and documenting all on-call activities and resolutions. Perform related duties to support the overall operations and objectives of the Authority.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required and additional education or certifications relevant for the position is a plus. Associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or another technical field preferred.
Professional Certification/Licenses: No certifications or licenses required. New York State Department of Health C or D Water certification preferred.
Experience: Three years of professional work experience in construction, maintenance, operations, or another related field required.
Travel Requirements: Extensive day travel in service area.
Typical Work Schedule: Regularly works Monday through Friday during normal business hours and requires willingness to work a flexible schedule when needed, and rotational weekend and On-Call schedule.
Environmental: (Outdoor environment) Works outdoors with exposure to weather conditions (rain, snow, sun, wind, extreme cold and heat).
