About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [MP]

This is a position in Maintenance at Fort Martin Power Station.

Responsibilities to Include:

  • Performs rigging, dismantling, overhauling, repairing, testing, and assembling of rotating, mechanical, and plant auxiliary equipment; operating overhead and mobile cranes on regular and precision lifts.

  • Makes or reproduces special parts, assemblies, tools, jigs and fixtures; making necessary measurements and sketches.

  • Operates and maintains hand tools; operates shop tools; perform drilling, grinding, cutting, shearing, filing, bending, forming and chipping.

  • Aligns rotating equipment assemblies using dial indicator technique or laser alignment equipment

  • Performs welding, brazing, soldering, electric arc welding and oxyacetylene burning; layouts, fabricates and maintains plant piping; prepares materials for and depositing metal surfaces on parts

  • Inspects, tests, adjusts, replaces, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all plant mechanical equipment.

  • Overhauls, plant mechanical equipment such as feedwater pumps, circulating pumps, drive gears and air compressors in place or in the shop. Overhauls and repairs pulverizers, condensers, feedwater heaters, and other plant mechanical equipment.

  • Sets up and removes rigging, tackle, blocking, shoring, and operating overhead cranes and hoists. Sets up and directs the movement and lifting of large plant equipment and/or assemblies.

  • Performs layout and fitting of sheet metal and steel plates.

  • Scrapes and hand fits bearings requiring close tolerances.

  • Repairs and replaces manual, motor, and hydraulically operated valves of all sizes and pressures such as check, pressure regulating, automatic control, stop and blowdown valves; replaces, grinds and reseats parts.

  • Repacks valves and pump shafts.

  • Performs insulation and refractory repair/installation.

  • Performs confined space monitoring and completes all required documentation such as recording date, time, and readings.

  • Troubleshoots and inspects mechanical equipment. Suggests, directs and performs the necessary work, including obtaining parts from storeroom and staging the parts on the job.

  • Conducts tests required by mechanical maintenance work, such as testing valves and heat exchangers for leakage, and test runs of equipment upon completion of work.

  • Plans, lays out, instruct and inspect periodically, maintenance work for employees being directed by them. Provides general direction and oversight on assigned jobs. Trains other employees in the training phase of on-the-job training.

  • Carpentry work, painting and cleaning, plumbing and heating systems, building structure work, etc.

  • Records maintenance data as required by job duties.

  • Conducts work so employees under his/her direction are safeguarded at all times.

  • Assists in the development and review of maintenance procedures and methodologies as required.

  • Performs pre-task safety analysis and post task feedback reporting.

  • Performs other similar and less skilled work as assigned.

  • Maintains work areas, tools and equipment in a neat, clean and presentable condition. Maintains a high level of housekeeping in all assigned areas.

  • Performs boiler and high energy piping weld repairs using established weld procedures and by following the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and Power Piping Code

Qualification Include:

  • Must possess a two-year technical or applied science degree, applicable to the work, from an accredited college or university.

  • In lieu of the degree, three years’ experience as a certified Journeyman, applicable to the work; equivalent military experience, applicable to the maintenance discipline, from any branch of the United States Armed Services or three years related experience, applicable to the maintenance discipline, in a power producing utility or other process-related industry, including, but not limited to: paper mill industry, airline industry, chemical and petro-chemical industries.

  • Must be able to pass the Edison Electric Institute POSS/MASS test

  • Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license(s) required to do work.

  • Ability to pass respirator fit test.

  • Must be able to perform work from specifications, complex drawings, and blueprints. Perform work in strict accordance with these documents.

  • Has a working knowledge of the safe applications and use of the vehicles, cranes, slings, bars, rollers, and other equipment and tools used in the work.

  • Must be able to work in high places and in restricted or confined spaces.

  • Must be able to work out off of staging, scaffolding, ladders, etc.

  • Must have the ability to receive and pass on orders and instructions, to those employees assisting in such a manner as to maintain harmony safety and cooperation.

  • Ability and willingness to work shifts and overtime.
