Urban STrAtEGIST & Designer
Streetsense and its partner CBRE Spain are seeking for a talented Urban Designer and Strategist to join our Place Strategy team in Spain. The ideal candidate has strong experience in shaping places that enhance people’s lives through urban design, placemaking and possess understanding or is interested in learning about real estate.
As an urban strategist and designer, you will use your expertise to drive innovative solutions and recommendations to our clients, both as part of the Streetsense Place Strategy team and collaboratively with other practice areas of CBRE Strategic Consulting. The ideal candidate must possess the following abilities:
Have experience in placemaking and urban mixed-use environments, with a (but not exclusive) focus on public realm and ground plane retail/F&B environments. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across various scales of urban design and architecture. A human-centric approach to designing the built environment is essential, along with strategic thinking and strong design skills.
Ability to grasp the complexities of the market and identify opportunities to differentiate our clients’ properties/developments. The role involves making recommendations and developing strategies to distinguish assets and ensure the success of our clients’ projects. Each property is unique, requiring tailored solutions. This position demands creative thinking, bold ideas, a visionary approach, and the ability to effectively communicate and bring these ideas to life.
Be a driven self-starter who excels in creative, solutions-focused thinking and strategy development. The candidate should have professional-level writing skills and a strong understanding of the business aspects of the built environment/real estate. Enthusiasm for improving places and communities is essential, along with a track-record of deep intellectual curiosity that inspires their work. This person should be capable of working independently and as part of a diverse team in various markets, bringing a passion and collaborative mind-set to the role.
The candidate will be working in a small but growing team of multi-disciplinary creatives and strategists who are interested in the intersection between real estate, urban trends, retail/F&B and branding.
The role will be based in Madrid, but project work may be national and international and will involve travel. The candidate must speak Spanish and English.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITES:
Serve as a project manager, coordinating and managing projects to conceptualize and develop creative, people-centered solutions to complex real estate and development challenges.
Conduct comprehensive qualitative and quantitative design research, synthesizing findings into clear insights. Research areas may include competitive landscape, real estate trends, urban analysis and user interviews.
Comfortable engaging with users and facilitating interactive workshops for stakeholders and the community.
Develop early concept ideas and design options, including hand sketches and three-dimensional spatial models through a project’s development.
Be a creative thinker who can incorporate the latest trends in urbanism, placemaking, real estate and retail/F&B.
Create clear and compelling deliverables and presentations, demonstrating strong storytelling skills. Attention to detail and experience in preparing well-designed deliverables are essential.
Confidently synthesize and present ideas to clients, both verbally and visually.
Be self-sufficient and proactive individual capable of running projects with minimal oversight.
Exhibit strategic thinking, synthesizing complex ideas and organizing information compellingly. Experience with Design-Thinking method is a plus.
Develop strong internal and external relationships, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
Collaborate and support Streetsense’s Branding team and CBRE Spain’s Strategic Consulting team.
qualifications and REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree in any of the following relevant fields: urban design and planning, architecture, design and innovation strategy or other closely related fields.
Post-graduate qualification in urban design, planning or design strategy is desirable but not essential.
A minimum of 4+ years of work experience in the built environment such as urban design, design strategy with proven experience of creative collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, from concept through to later design stages.
Experience in project managing and running design and strategy projects.
Proven design skills, including hand sketching as well as 2D and 3D spatial design.
Ability to work at multiple scales. From large scale mixed-use development, public spaces and real estate assets. Understanding of building massing, block design, streetscape and public spaces is essential.
Strong visual communication skills, including clear diagramming and data visualization skills, for the creation of compelling presentations and deliverables.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate design rationale to internal and external audiences.
Comfort in the fast-paced, dynamic environment of a growing creative studio, and strong organizational skills to coordinate and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
High proficiency using the Adobe Creative Cloud family, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
High proficiency in digital design tools including AutoCAD, Rhino and Sketch-up. GIS and database mapping also desirable.
Availability to travel across EMEA
Must have a valid work permit for Spain/Europe.
