Alliant Energy has an opening for a Team Lead Communications position reporting to either our Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA Office. The Team Lead Communications role builds, implements, and manages stakeholder engagement strategies for Alliant Energy. This position leads and oversees the development and delivery of communications and stakeholder engagement plans targeting both internal and external audiences through various channels.

The role involves leading the team in crafting communication and stakeholder engagement campaigns, from conception through execution, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. Key responsibilities include, promoting a positive company image, supporting the overall brand, optimizing communication efforts by reviewing their impact and recommending improvements. This leader works closely with team members and key internal partners to optimally tell the company's story, advance key initiatives, and improve its public perception.

What you will do

  • Drives and implements communications and engagement strategies to support operational and strategic priorities.

  • Coordinates stakeholder identification and analysis, ensuring that all relevant parties— including, but not limited to, employees, communities, customers, and government officials—are considered, and their interests and impacts are assessed.

  • Develops tailored engagement strategies to improve positive outcomes.

  • Serves as the primary communication link between stakeholders understanding needs, concerns, and expectations, while encouraging transparent communication, collaboration and feedback.

  • Identifies and assesses risks in organizational relationships, formulates risk mitigation strategies, and reviews these to ensure project success.

  • Leads the team activities, provides training, and fosters an environment of collaboration and open communication.

  • Implements stakeholder engagement plans in collaboration with communications, marketing, resource development, regulatory, public affairs, and senior leadership teams.

  • Participates in key events to enhance the company's reputation and brand.

  • Operates to develop, lead, and coordinate broad-based communications, marketing, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

  • Acts as an external spokesperson and participates in cross-functional teams for sophisticated inquiries and project activities.

  • Engages in other duties as needed that support our Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree marketing, communications, English or related field.

Required Experience

  • 7 years of professional experience.

  • Proven experience working in communications, public affairs, marketing.

  • Experience leading others (directly or indirectly)

  • Proven foundation in strategic communications with a clear understanding of stakeholder engagement strategy.

Preferred Experience

  • Project management experience

  • Public affairs experience
