POSITION PURPOSE

Provide supervisory, technical, and project management expertise to oversee and elevate the group responsible for completion of engineering necessary to plan, design, and construct MGE's gas and electric distribution system and associated service extensions to serve new and existing customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides or procures engineering resources to analyze, coordinate, plan, and design new and upgraded gas and electric distribution extensions and services.

  • Leads and monitors distribution and service delivery solutions to ensure consistently accurate, quality, and timely energy service is provided within defined targets and standards.

  • Manages project portfolio; develops, analyzes, and monitors core operating system information; and reports on distribution, service, productivity, and workflow.

  • Demonstrated by providing project portfolio management and analyzing data to develop dashboards and reports that capture outstanding and completed work projects, forecasted future workload, needed resources, and supporting information for budgetary processes.

  • Continuously improves processes by engaging stakeholders and implementing best practices to increase the level and quality of customer service provided.

  • Demonstrated by holding time and space for regularly communicating with all stakeholders and developing and executing remediation plans.

  • Produces and monitors distribution and service level agreements for energy services to customers.

  • Reviews invoices for third-party engineering work associated with service design solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or associate degree, or equivalent, in engineering, project management, or construction.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering, operational, or customer-facing roles with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to effectively lead, develop, and support a team of technical employees in a changing business environment.

  • Foundational knowledge of natural gas and electricity, utility gas and electric systems, and gas and electric distribution systems.

  • Advanced ability to think critically using logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Advanced ability to recognize obstacles and generate original, innovative solutions to difficult or unusual situations.

  • Ability to convey information and viewpoints clearly and confidently to a wide audience in a well-organized and professional manner at both summary and detail levels.

  • Advanced ability to adjust plans, goals, actions, or priorities to meet changing situations and guide others through the change.

  • Ability to evaluate implications of business outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to respond to and resolve complex internal and external customer concerns.

  • Proven collaborative skills in a team-based environment.

  • Proven customer communication skills.

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
