Actalent Solar Project Manager in MADISON, Wisconsin

Job Title: Solar Project ManagerJob Description

As a Solar Project Manager, you will oversee the management of commercial rooftop solar projects across various sectors including commercial, industrial, healthcare, schools, biotech, community, and customer-hosted projects. You will be responsible for the entire electrical construction project from initial bid to final completion, working to enhance efficiency and profitability. You will act as the main liaison between the company and the client and provide primary support to field forces, including Electricians and Low Voltage Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the pre-construction process and understand the project's contractual requirements.

  • Maximize project profitability and negotiate major material/equipment purchases.

  • Work with the project foreman to plan, schedule, and engineer the work for maximum value.

  • Handle all correspondence related to the construction project and assist in managing the project’s labor force.

  • Monitor project productivity and profitability, taking corrective steps as needed.

  • Attend project-related meetings and be familiar with manpower, equipment, and tool requirements.

  • Advise and perform monthly billings and job cost projections to ensure accurate WIP.

  • Interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings to assist in the design process.

  • Identify problem areas that will affect the design of new systems and perform site assessments.

  • Create and understand single line drawings for solar installations and layouts utilizing Helioscope.

  • Create construction documents with assistance from Electrical Engineer and coordinate with utilities and permitting agencies.

  • Understand utility rates and the interconnection process.

  • Develop targeted customers and foster relationships to obtain project opportunities.

  • Participate in activities aligned with the company’s business development plan.

  • Engage in social, civic, and trade activities to enhance the company's prestige and goodwill.

Essential Skills

  • Familiarity with Energy Toolbase and/or NREL System Advisor Model (SAM).

  • Understanding of solar rebates and incentives.

  • Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and vehicle charging stations.

  • Strong knowledge of solar equipment (modules, inverters, racking) and NEC articles related to solar installations.

  • Experience with commissioning and programming of equipment.

  • Excellent written skills and telephone etiquette.

  • Ability to analyze problems and solve them independently.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with various stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform sales and marketing efforts on behalf of the company.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of related project management experience with an electrical contractor or equivalent solar industry experience.

Work Environment

The work environment includes both office and project site settings. You will alternate between sitting and standing in a general office environment and will travel to other offices or job sites as required. You must be able to navigate construction job sites with or without accommodation. We provide solar solutions across various markets including utility, commercial, multi-family, industrial, education, and government/institutional sectors. Our team has extensive experience in roof-mounted arrays, ground mounts (fixed tilt and tracking), utility scale, community solar, carports, energy and financial modeling, incentives and grants, and operations and maintenance services. We operate primarily in WI, IA, and IL but are open to expanding our geographic range when opportunities arise.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $48.00
