Actalent Microbiology Lab Technician in Madison, Wisconsin

Job Title: Microbiology Lab TechnicianJob Description

We are looking for a dedicated Microbiology Lab Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist with media production, dispose of samples, and maintain lab cleanliness. You will also help with counting probiotics and eventually perform various lab tests. This position offers a career opportunity within the microbiology team, with training provided on different lab aspects and assay procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with media production

  • Dispose of samples

  • Maintain and stock the lab

  • Put away glassware

  • Help with counting probiotics on petri dishes

  • Perform various aspects of lab testing

  • Conduct routine analysis in the lab

  • Test for pathogens such as E.coli, Salmonella, and Listeria

  • Perform plating for yeast, mold, and total plate count

Essential Skills

  • Aseptic technique

  • Pipetting

  • Following SOP

  • Lab experience

  • Food testing or food service experience

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Associate's degree in the sciences

  • 6+ months of lab-related experience (can include support roles)

  • 1+ years of experience in a food service position (e.g., server, busser, bartender)

  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with routine/repetitive tasks (e.g., warehouse, assembly, basic lab work)

  • High attention to detail

  • Proficiency with various pipettes and micropipettes, including multi-channel electronic pipettes

Work Environment

The lab is a fast-paced environment focused on dietary microbiology and probiotics testing. The facility, which has been newly built since January 2021, employs around 415 staff members. The microbiology department has approximately 20 employees and operates separately from the chemistry lab. The work can be repetitive and is often production-oriented to meet client deadlines. The lab setting requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle various pipetting tools. Please be aware of any potential food allergies as part of the role.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.17 - $20.17/hr.
