Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Microbiology Lab Assistant to join our team. This role offers a fantastic career opportunity within the microbiology team, with extensive training on various aspects of lab work and the potential for advancement. You will support our production by preparing media, disposing of samples, managing glassware, and maintaining lab cleanliness. You will also assist with counting probiotics and eventually perform diverse lab tests.
Responsibilities
Prepare and make media for lab use.
Dispose of samples responsibly.
Organize and put away glassware.
Clean and stock the lab regularly.
Assist with counting probiotics (growth on petri dishes).
Perform various aspects of lab testing after training.
Conduct routine analysis in the lab.
Inoculate samples with different types of media and dilutions.
Test for pathogens such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria.
Perform plating for yeast, mold, and total plate count (lower dilutions).
Qualifications
High school diploma or Associate's degree in the sciences
1+ years of experience in a food service position (server/bussing/bartender)
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
High attention to detail
Work Environment
The work environment is a lab setting, focusing on dietary microbiology and probiotics. Our lab is fast-paced and can be repetitive, resembling production work due to strict client timeframes. The microbiology department has around 20 employees and is separate from the chemistry lab. The lab tests food and dietary supplements for nutritional value, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment. We offer a bonus program based on tenure and performance, with potential for pay increases and career advancement opportunities. The lab is housed in a new building as of January 2021, and we pride ourselves on a small, tight-knit team
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.17 - $20.17/hr.
