JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks an instructor for CIV ENGR 159, Civil Engineering Graphics, for Academic Year 2024-25. This course covers graphical communication including lettering, drawing equipment and techniques; geometric constructions, orthographic projections, technical sketching, isometric views, descriptive geometry, and computer-aided design drawing, with applications specific to civil engineering. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to (1) use basic drafting tools to create scaled images of civil and environmental engineering designs and (2) use computer-aided design tools such as AutoCAD to create scaled images of civil and environmental engineering designs. An example spring semester edition of the syllabus is available upon request. This is a required 2-credit course for all students in two undergraduate degree programs: (1) civil engineering and (2) environmental engineering. We typically offer three sections of the course each semester, with 15 to 30 students in each section. Most of the students are in their first or second year of college. Teaching assistant support is available with sufficient enrollment. Minimum qualifications for the position include four or more years of experience creating scaled images using AutoCAD and basic tools for manually-created drawings, either in an educational setting or in the practice of engineering or architecture. Experience with building information modeling tools such as Civil 3D and Revit is preferred, but not required. Experience with instruction is also preferred--those without instructional experience will be expected to participate in training. The successful candidate will strive to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Expansion of duties to include instruction of other computer tools such as Civil 3D and Revit and to include general computer lab support for students in engineering design courses will also be considered after a positive performance review.
