JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Fire & Life Safety Specialist position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison plays a vital role in promoting a pro-active, comprehensive, and full encompassing Fire & Life Safety program across 35 million square feet of buildings on campus. The incumbent will make recommendations for the control of identified hazards and assess hazards so that work, recreation, and research can be performed safely and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards. A typical day in this role would include: - Involvement with campus Hot Work program and campus life safety impairment program - Performing routine fire inspections on all building types of occupancies across campus (ex. assembly, residential, business, high-hazard, storage) - Consulting and collaborating with campus stakeholders on how to best address fire safety issues - Providing hands on fire extinguisher training to campus students and employees - Other daily duties include assisting with AED inspection and program elements as needed, assisting with campus fire alarm reduction program, assist with campus standalone fire suppression system inspection, testing and maintenance, and evaluation and understanding standards and codes related to fire and life safety. This position will be within the Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) department under the Division of Facilities, Planning, and Management (FP&M) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The EHS department provides guidance, technical consultations, and expertise to the campus community in the areas of biological, chemical, environmental, engineering, radiation, and fire safety. FP&M is a full spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university\'s education, research, and outreach activities.
