POSITION PURPOSE

Provide engineering guidance, leadership, and support to the areas of Madison Gas and Electric Company's (MGE) Distribution Engineering and Operations departments through analyzing and supporting the Company's distribution asset data, applications, and processes involving maintenance, inspections, productivity, environmental, capacity, and reliability-driven projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides engineering, operations, and technical support to MGE's KloudGin program. Support includes modeling, analyzing, reporting, troubleshooting, and application development.

  • Provides engineering, operations, and technical support to MGE's Geographic Information System (GIS) and Work and Asset Management (WAM). Support includes modeling, analyzing, reporting, troubleshooting, and application development.

  • Provides engineering support to modeling MGE's Outage Management System (OMS) and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS).

  • Maintains distribution reliability through gathering, supporting, and analyzing electric outage data which is used to develop, plan, and prioritize capital projects benefiting reliability based on MGE's Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

  • Provides engineering and operations support through maintenance, analysis, and enhancing numerous electronic systems and processes in areas of gas and electric operations such as gas leak surveys, electric joint use, asset inspections, etc.

  • Directs the management of the transformer load management (TLM) information on the distribution transformer fleet by tracking all transformers with customer load calculations and supports environmental reporting.

  • Leads enhancing supported systems and processes to implement new technology projects such distribution automation (DA), distributed energy resources (DER), etc.

  • Leads enhancing supported systems and processes to implement new regulatory requirements such as gas asset tracking and traceability.

  • Provides engineering guidance and support to distribution asset management efforts such as maintaining asset inspection cycles; developing condition-based asset life cycle analysis; regulatory inspection requirements; and optimizing processes, reporting, and productivity.

  • Provides engineering guidance and support to maintain and enhance the preventative maintenance plan.

  • Works and leads collaboration with other departments to develop, maintain, and support gas and electric distribution system planning and analysis models via industry tools such as Synergi Electric and Synergi Gas.

  • Works with gas and electric engineering groups to implement and improve distribution design approaches, including implementing, maintaining, and supporting Graphic Work Design (GWD) software and processes.

  • Provides leadership and strategic planning for future upgrades, implementations, and conversions of supported systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial, or other engineering field, computer science, or equivalent experience.

  • Two to five or more years of relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong engineering background.

  • Intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and theory, including analysis and modeling of electric power systems or gas distribution systems.

  • Understanding of gas distribution systems.

  • Understanding of high-, medium-, and low-voltage electric systems.

  • Working knowledge of a variety of database and file structures; programming languages; and productivity, analysis, or reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Microsoft Office, Power BI, python, R, etc.)

  • Good written and oral communication skills and human relations skills necessary for clear communication to maintain cooperative relationships with Company personnel while working to achieve a common goal or problem-solving.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to understand and resolve issues quickly.

  • Basic project management skills and abilities, including a good understanding of project management methodology.

  • Able to implement Company goals within a team structure and as an individual.

The position is hybrid, and office days are in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, where MGE is an active participant in community efforts to preserve the area's extraordinary quality of life.
