JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Wisconsin Brain Donor Program (WBDP) technician is an academic staff position in the Alzheimer\'s Disease Research Center (ADRC) at UW Madison. The ADRC is a highly successful NIH-funded research center focused on improving early detection of Alzheimer\'s Disease, identifying risk and protective factors, and finding ways to delay onset and progression. This position will report to the WBDP manager and will work in conjunction with faculty Neuropathology core leadership and additional stakeholders within the ADRC. The brain donation program is part of the Neuropathology core in the ADRC. This program is an important resource for Alzheimer\'s and related diseases research. This research core collects, maintains, and distributes high-quality brain tissues and biological samples for research. This position will assist during autopsies with the collection of tissues and samples and will manage the day-to-day duties to maintain the research core. The various responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following: - Assist during autopsies to recover brain tissue and other postmortem samples, prepare the tissue for storage, and complete associated paperwork and follow up activities. - Oversee inventory management duties such as cataloging samples, continuous storage oversight (fresh frozen tissue in -80C freezers and formalin fixed tissues), distribution of samples for research, and managing accurate inventory records. - Manage equipment and supplies, including freezers. - Complete quality control activities to ensure accuracy in maintaining high-quality tissues and inventory records and other data. - Engage in continuous improvement projects within the core. - Assist with maintaining the participant database and consenting records, biosafety protocol, research protocols and standard operating procedures - Represent the brain donation program at outreach events and when interacting with brain donor participants. Freezer alarms/responses and brain donation activities including autopsies occur 24/7/365.
