TEKsystems 3rd Shift Computer Operations in Madison, Wisconsin

Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Mainframe Computer Operator to monitor and manage batch jobs on our mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with MVS, OS/390 systems, and be proficient in job monitoring, resolving job abends, and modifying JCL code. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage a variety of batch jobs on mainframe systems.

  • Resolve job abends and troubleshoot issues by reading and modifying JCL code.

  • Utilize scheduling software, preferably Control-M, to manage job flows.

  • Serve as a liaison between technical developers and production support teams in a client-server and mainframe environment.

  • Perform scheduling requests and job submissions for developers and customers.

  • Monitor and analyze complex job flows between client-server and mainframe systems.

  • Identify and address potential or existing scheduling problems.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with Development, TSS, and other CPS staff.

  • Operate across multiple environments, including Acceptance and Production.

  • Provide detailed documentation of problems using Tivoli.

  • Update, review, and change job documentation as needed.

  • Perform functional testing and create ChangeMan packages for the mainframe.

  • Maintain AJS best practices and perform Quality Assurance (QA) checks on all new jobs to ensure standards are met.

  • Communicate professionally with programmers, customers, co-workers, and managers.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Mainframe Computer Operator on MVS, OS/390 systems.

  • Proficiency in JCL, Control-M, and other scheduling software.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Enthusiasm and a positive outlook.

  • Desire to learn all aspects of CPS production operations.

Technical Environment:

  • Mainframe & LAN Software: CICS, TSO, Argent (AJS), Tivoli, ChangeMan, SDSF, JCL, HODv10, IDMS, DB2, VSAM, Thin Client, MS Office Products.
