Ohio Valley Opportunities Preschool Teacher Assistant in Madison, Indiana

Ohio Valley Opportunities is a non-profit, Community Action Agency serving Jefferson, Jennings and Scott counties. Our Head Start program currently has outstanding career opportunities available for early childhood education professionals that are enthusiastic about making a positive impact in the lives of preschoolers. A full-time Teacher Assistant position is now available at our Hanover, Indiana site. A CDA credential or a state awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA, or are enrolled in a program that will lead to and associate or bachelor's degree, required. Some of the job duties include:

  • Advocate for early childhood education through ensuring quality services to children, families and community.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff to provide for the needs of children in compliance with Head Start performance Standards.
  • Adhere to all Personnel Policies, Head Start Program Performance Standards and the Policies and Procedures Indiana Childcare Licensing Regulations.
  • Assist with daily classroom activities as determined by the Teaching Team.
  • Must be flexible and willing to adjust work hours as deemed necessary to accommodate families, program activities and/or training.
  • Assist with daily classroom and playground schedules, routines and transition activities.
  • Assist with completing developmental screenings and regularly assess children's needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and approaches to positive guidance and discipline.
  • Assist with home visits and conferences.
  • Provide ongoing communication and information sharing with staff and parents.
  • Respond competently to the diverse cultures, traditions, lifestyles, languages, and values of each family.
  • Submit timely, neat and accurate documentation.
  • Attend all assigned training and meetings.
  • Must be flexible and willing to adjust work hours as deemed necessary to accommodate families, program activities and/or training.
  • Ability to recognize and manage ones own behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment within their organizations.
  • Show respect and openness toward someone whose social and cultural background is different from ones own.
  • Recognize that everyone has at least some ethnocentric views that are provided by that culture and shaped by his or her individual interpretation of it.
  • Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities that exist as it relates to serving children and families in our service area
