Job Title: Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Description
This is a full-time position where you will primarily work as a mechanic during the off months, focusing mostly on diesel work and agricultural equipment, both engine and body/equipment. During the busy months (Planting - Harvest), you will operate heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
Perform all types of custom application duties including but not limited to spraying, spreading, and NH3 application.
Apply crop nutrients and crop protection products in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner.
Ensure proper calibration of fertilizer and spraying equipment.
Complete and maintain required application reports, vehicle inspection reports, and other necessary documentation.
Operate, service, and maintain all types of custom application equipment.
Assist with housekeeping and maintenance of the facility, roadways, and assigned vehicles/equipment.
Operate equipment and vehicles safely and responsibly.
Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products as directed.
Report to centralized location at designated time unless approved by management.
Assist with daily operations at locations, including receiving, loading, and delivering products.
Help resolve customer complaints quickly and fairly in accordance with company policies and refer unusual situations to immediate supervisor.
Provide prompt and courteous customer service.
Essential Skills
Mechanical aptitude, especially with diesel engines and agricultural equipment.
Experience in mechanical repair and maintenance.
Experience (2 years preferred) in agriculture-related experience.
Heavy equipment operation experience.
Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn key operational computer programs.
Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Strong mechanical and decision-making abilities.
Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment.
Excellent organizational skills including multi-tasking, planning, prioritizing, and delegating.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, supervisors, and suppliers.
Valid driver's license (Class D required at hire; CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements preferred).
Ability to maintain a commercial applicator's license.
Meet the driver qualification standards set by the self-insured group.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in agriculture/farming.
Management experience.
Experience in loading, inventory, shipping, and receiving.
Project management skills.

Work Environment
You will work in both a machine shop and outdoor environment, around machinery and moving parts. Exposure to airborne particles including grain, dust, and fertilizer is common. The job may involve working in adverse weather conditions and potentially loud noise levels, requiring hearing protection. Tasks frequently involve lifting up to 75 lbs, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, or crawling. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required due to exposure to hazardous materials or fumes. Extended seasonal hours may be necessary to meet deadlines.
