Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description

Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities: Experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear but courteous manner. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department training. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Work Environment

M-F 8:30a-5:30p. This is a fast-paced site, suitable for someone with experience in handling higher volumes. The work environment is a doctor's office, where the candidate will sometimes work alone and at other times with other employees. The candidate is expected to perform 20-40 draws daily and will stand for the majority of their shift.
