BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) is currently seeking a strategic HR Business Partner!

We are looking for a HR Business Partner to join our ambitious Human Resources dream team! At BWXT, the HR Business Partner plays a pivotal role in aligning human resources practices with the strategic goals of the organization. They serve as consultants, bridging the gap between HR functions and business objectives. This is an on-site opportunity located at our NOG Lynchburg (NOG-L) plant in Lynchburg, VA and reporting to the site HR Manager.

NOG-L is a commercial facility that manufactures naval nuclear reactor cores for submarines and aircraft carriers. Today, BWXT reactors power the Navy’s Ohio , Virginia , Seawolf and Los Angeles -class submarines as well as its Nimitz and Ford -class aircraft carriers. While operating safely and at the highest levels of regulated compliance, NOG-L manufactures precision nuclear components with a highly trained and valued workforce composed of the nation's most innovative minds. We achieve our goals and create value for our customers through our continuous improvement philosophy and through the application of our core competencies. NOG-L's workforce consists of approximately 2,150 employees, both hourly and salary. Our highly skilled workforce includes machinists, engineers, technicians, security officers, and administrative staff.

As an HR Business Partner, you will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Consultant: Collaborate closely with site managers to provide daily HR guidance. Understand their needs and challenges and offer tailored solutions.

  • Promote Employee Development: Partner with management and employees to promote positive employee relations, enhance work relationships, foster career development, lead succession planning, boost morale, and increase productivity.

  • Monitor Workforce Planning: Partner with leadership and Talent Acquisition to provide full cycle support for the site’s hiring needs to include hiring manager consultation; requisition initiation; interview participation; offer creation/delivery; onboarding and presentation of new hire orientation.

  • Analyze Trends and Metrics: Dive into HR data to identify trends, track performance, and help the business make informed decisions. Use metrics to forecast & drive improvements.

  • Resolve Complex Employee Relations Issues: Tackle sensitive matters, such as conflicts, allegations, conduct concerns and disciplinary actions. Strive for fair resolutions that maintain a respectful work environment and foster positive employee relations.

  • Suggest New HR Strategies : Innovate! Propose fresh approaches to improve processes, decrease span, improve employee experiences, and further BWXT’s mission.

  • Provide HR Policy Guidance: Interpret and communicate HR policies to employees at all levels of the organization, ensuring compliance and consistency across the site.

    Requirements and skills needed to excel in this role:

  • Change Management : Willingness to drive organizational changes, effectively adapt to evolving needs and lead continuous improvement efforts.

    Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a closely related field.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience as a human resource professional (i.e., HR coordinator to HR generalist/HR business partner; relevant combinations of HR specialty experience may also be considered).

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

  • Ability to report to work at an assigned location in Lynchburg, VA. This is an on-site role based at a high consequence manufacturing facility that requires a DOE security clearance for daily access.

  • Ability to report for the occasional off shift or weekend hours in support of positive employee relations and emergent business needs.

Pay: $ 62,000 - $ 97,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000 and $97,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
