You may have also acquired the following skills:

  • You have pressurized water reactor (PWR) or boiling water reactor (BWR) core design and/or analysis experience in course project and internships.

  • You have some experience in computer model development and application (e.g., SCALE, CASMO, SIMULATE, or other nuclear industry analysis code).

  • You have worked on engineering workstation computers and within LINUX operating environments. You have some computer programming/software capabilities and experience in FORTRAN, C/C++, or PYTHON.

  • You display positive and effective team interaction skills and value positive peer relationships.

  • You have developed effective written and oral communication skills.

You will leverage your skills and experience to be part of an innovative team and make a difference for our customers. As a Core Design Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Core Design and Safety Analysis organization in the Fuel Business Unit which is responsible for a broad range of activities including developing core designs and performing reload licensing activities while using the industry’s most advanced core design tools. The engineering activities are coordinated with other Framatome fuel engineering departments both locally and worldwide. Your work will include:

  • You will be responsible for neutronic design and analyses of nuclear fuel for commercial power plants and R&D, using the latest codes and methods for nuclear applications.

  • Develop economic core designs to optimize fuel usage and within defined safety parameters. These analyses involve the use of engineering computer codes and employ both empirical and first principal methods.

  • Lead reload licensing activities and possibly first-of-a-kind licensing activities to advance fuel management techniques.

  • Use optimization tools and automation to streamline the analyses.

  • Participate in and support interfaces with customer and regulatory authorities to obtain regulatory approval of the Framatome reactor core design, codes, and methods.

  • Prepare and review design reports, safety analyses, calculation files, and associated records.

    Your Total Rewards Package

    The range of base salary for the position is between $73,000- $96,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
