Receptionist

GENERAL SUMMARY:Greets, identifies ,and directs visitors. Maintains a log of visitors. Alerts appropriate party of visitor arrival. Arranges for escort as appropriate. May provide clerical assistance such as typing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:• Operates a telephone switchboard or console system to relay incoming, outgoing, and intersystem calls.• Greets visitors, determines the nature of visitors' business, and provides appropriate information.• Keeps a log of visitors and/or issues visitor passes.• Takes messages, may make future appointments, and/or maintain appointment log.• Performs incidental clerical work that requires typing, sorting, or collating capability.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:No supervisory responsibilities are required.

DECISION MAKING:Decisions are derived from a limited number of predetermined solutions.

IMPACT OF DECISIONS:Minimal impact on the work unit or the individual.

COMPLEXITY:Nonexistent or minimal complexity required. Tasks, processes, or operations are routine and repetitive and may require the selection and execution of simple actions such as comparing numbers and letters.

PROBLEM SOLVING:Tasks are defined and follow instructions, with minimal problem solving.

FREEDOM OF ACTION:Works under close supervision of simple, routine duties. Clear, highly routine tasks require following standardized instructions.

COMMUNICATION:INTERNALInternal communication is required on a daily basis with all levels of positions. Communication involves exchange of basic verbal/written routine information and/or simple service activities requiring common courtesy (e.g., answering questions, giving direction in response to simple requests).EXTERNALExternal communication is required on a daily basis with all levels of positions. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

EXPERIENCE: Entry-level; no experience required.
