Tradesperson - Plumbing Shop

Position Description:

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Repairs and install fixtures and systems -- potable water, natural gas, sewage and pumps. Ensures that all projects or jobs are safely accomplished as scheduled to meet established standards of performance, quality and code/regulations.

  • Maintains specialized systems -- stills, back flow prevention devices, water treatment and fire protection systems. Ensures that all systems are maintained to meet established standards of performance, quality and code/regulations.

  • Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Estimates and assesses job or project materials requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. All required materials will be obtained prior to starting work on each scheduled job.

  • Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.

  • Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency callback roster on a rotating basis. Available for required overtime work on an as needed basis.

Compensation will be based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and defined years of experience to align with the appropriate career levels for the Tradesperson specialty in the Operations Division Facilities Maintenance Career Plan.

  • Three (3) years as a licensed journeyperson plumber or six (6) years experience in trade.

  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurability, & ability to operate motor vehicles.
