Leprino Foods Safety Technician in Lubbock, Texas

Leprino Foods broke ground on the $1 Billion facility in the summer of 2022. The plant will become operational in 2025 with Phase 1 and will become fully operational by 2026 with Phase 2!
Summary Description:
The Safety Technician provides assistance to the Plant Safety Leader in driving the plant Safety & Health processes to support risk reduction, injury prevention, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Position responsibilities are in the following functional areas: safety training and education, safety inspections, engagement in the safety process, regulatory compliance, incident analysis and response, and PSM/RMP/HAZMAT/Lone Worker Program.
Helps to conduct New Employee Orientation safety training
Facilitates and/or helps to facilitate compliance-based and job-specific safety training
Responsible for conducting safety training, tracking, and record retention
Assists in making safety visible in the workplace through various postings, safety messages, campaigns, and other strategies, including daily interaction with production and maintenance team members (60% of time on manufacturing floor)
Participates in pre-shift safety meetings on rotational basis in all departments
Performs various inspection (hazard recognition) techniques related to general industry and food manufacturing to continuously improve workplace conditions and behaviors, such as emergency exits, fire extinguishers, eye wash and shower stations, confined space air monitors, and HAZMAT equipment
Helps to monitor compliance with pre-use inspection process (i.e., hoists, ladders, fall protection, PIT) and record retention
Actively participates in the audit and supports the corrective actions to the annual Corporate MAPP Audit
Inspects and maintains critical safety signage, such as lockout tagout, confined space and container labeling
Supports employee engagement teams for safety by actively participating and helping to lead teams where applicable
Supports an effective rewards and recognition process to energize, engage, and empower employees for continued safety process improvements
Participates in projects to eliminate or reduce safety and health risks in the plant
Helps to facilitate the maintenance and execution of site training records processes plant-wide (LMS, hardcopy as applicable)
Helps to maintain HAZMAT, Lone Worker, Confined Space Rescue and other emergency response equipment
Administers the medical surveillance program for HAZMAT
Supports site-specific emergency response plan
Participates in monthly PSM Committee meetings and supports action items
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Associates Degree in Safety Management or similar program or equivalent experience and familiarity in fast-paced manufacturing environment with established safety processes and programs.
Minimum of one year of progressive work experience in an industrial setting, preferably in the food industry.
Federal or State Certificates such as OSHA 501 or Hazardous Materials a plus.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective written and small group communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
People orientated personality.
Ability to work schedule supporting a 24/7 production operation.
