Job Purpose/Overview

The Laboratory Technician is involved in all aspects of laboratory processes and responsible for the preparation and quality assurance of plates used in allergy testing and other materials. This role is essential for producing high-quality semi-automated plate coating for ELISA testing, used in both domestic and international markets for determination of IgE serum concentration in animals in the Allercept platform. The technician performs immunoassay procedures using a variety of methodologies and assists with calibration and control of manual immunoassay method. This role also supports all other lab functions in support of production operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Semi-automated plate coating for ELISA testing.

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of reagents and components.

  • Perform quality control and background reactivity testing.

  • Prepare Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for allergen-coated plates shipped internationally.

  • Laboratory tasks include but are not limited to: glass washing including autoclave, filtering, dilution; preparation of reagents and buffers.

  • Chemical Management and Research Support Unit formulation preparation.

  • Work closely with Veterinary Diagnostic Lab and other partners.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field (or associate’s degree in health science field and laboratory experience preferred).

  • Experience in a laboratory setting, preferably with allergen extracts or immunotherapy.

  • Familiarity with quality control processes and documentation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • This position requires understanding of laboratory work and associated attention to detail and documentation.

  • Experience with manual or semi-automated ELISA technology is preferred.

  • Experience with Excel, Word and preferably software for Elisa’s (ie: softmax pro or similar).

  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot automated equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Working Conditions

The associate will primarily work in a typical laboratory environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Regular and predictable attendance at the designated work site is required. This is not a remote or hybrid position. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, database management, email, and the Internet.

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

The Target Pay Range for this position is $28.10 - $35.00 Hourly. At Mars, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.
