ABOUT THIS POSITION

Waystar is seeking an experienced Vice President of Data Architecture to lead our product-focused data initiatives and manage our data warehouse platform. This role is crucial in building and optimizing our data warehouse, ensuring it serves as a robust foundation for our data science and analytics efforts. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in building data warehouses, a strong background in cloud data platforms, the aptitude to build and amplify the current data product roadmap, and the ability to transform Waystar’s data stack into a Unified Data Warehouse utilizing a single technology platform.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop and Implement Data Strategy : Design and execute a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with Waystar’s product objectives and data needs.

• Architecture and Design : Lead the creation and maintenance of a scalable, high-performance unified data warehouse that provides optimized data access for analytics, reporting, product integration, machine learning, data science, and generative AI use cases.

• Product Roadmap : Lead the data product roadmap, emphasizing advanced analytics, technical scale, and data accessibility for machine learning and generative AI.

• Healthcare Leadership : Lead the ongoing creation of powerful and unique data products that solve complex healthcare problems.

• Data Governance : Enhance data governance policies, standards, and enforcement to maintain data quality, consistency, and security.

• Platform and Tooling : Oversee the adoption and integration of cloud data technologies to ensure a cohesive data model, scalable ETL/ELT, and data access framework.

• Team Leadership : Build and lead a high-performing team of data architects, product managers, and software engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management. You will set the pace and velocity of the team, ensuring we can continuously move at a high velocity while course-correcting as needed.

• Strategy : Be part of the Product and Technology leadership team, contributing to overall strategy & roadmap.

• Cross-functional Collaboration : Work with product management, engineering, and business units to deliver solutions that unlock new capabilities and customer experiences.

• Continuous Improvement : Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, implementing innovative solutions to enhance Waystar’s data infrastructure.

• Project Oversight : Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery, and provide regular updates to technology leadership.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Proficiency in data architecture principles, data warehousing, data modeling, SQL, ETL processes, and data integration techniques.

• Proven ability to lead and manage data architecture, product management, and engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

• Extensive experience with data platforms such as Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Data Bricks, Redshift or Azure SQL Data Warehouse.

• Strong understanding of data governance practices, including data quality management, metadata management, and data lineage.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for enterprise data architecture that aligns with business goals.

• Strong project management skills with a proven track record of delivering complex data projects on time and within budget.

Education and Relevant Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and data platform technologies.

• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role managing data architecture, product management, or software engineering teams.

• Experience in the healthcare or technology industry is a plus.

• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
