University of Louisville Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance - ULGC in Louisville, Kentucky
Minimum Requirements:Associate’s Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turf Management or a related field and Two (2) years of relevant experience within a golf course setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license and insurable by the University insurance carrier. Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Pre-employment physical exam required. KY State Pesticide License or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Grade 6 (Salaried)Position Description:The Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance is a hands-on position supervising and leading assigned grounds staff, maintaining productivity and efficiency, and ensuring top quality playing surfaces are maintained and safety protocols are followed at the University of Louisville Golf Club (ULGC) in Simpsonville, KY. In collaboration with the Manager, Golf Course Operations the Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths and will develop and coordinate an agronomic plan to maintain optimal playing conditions.The Supervisor, Grounds Maintenance will be required to work a non-standard workweek, including nights, weekends, holidays and during winter break as needed.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise and Lead Grounds Staff: Manage, train, and evaluate assigned groundskeepers and technicians, ensuring work is scheduled efficiently and safety protocols are rigorously followed.Maintenance Oversight: Plan, oversee, and directly manage the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways to ensure excellent course conditions.Irrigation and Water Management: Develop and adjust the irrigation plan to maintain optimal playing conditions, considering weather patterns and seasonal needs.Collaboration for Course Quality: Work closely with the Manager, Golf Course Operations to achieve consistent, top-quality playing surfaces.Equipment and Application Management: Instruct equipment operators on the proper use and care of mowing and other grounds equipment. Oversee and/or perform pesticide applications, including the calibration of equipment, to ensure effective and safe usage. Participate in maintaining pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems as required.Coordination with Spray Technician: Communicate directly with the Spray Technician to schedule and monitor chemical applications on the course. Ensure proper application procedures, tank mixing, and compatibility checks are adhered to.Leadership and Motivation: Provide strong leadership to inspire and improve team performance in alignment with course objectives.Safety Compliance: Conduct and reinforce safety training alongside the Equipment Manager to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.Daily Communication with Pro Shop: Serve as a direct link with the pro shop to keep them informed of course conditions and any issues affecting daily operations.Administrative Duties: Oversee hiring, performance reviews, terminations, payroll processing, and employee scheduling.
